Dojo, gyms and clubs where English is spoken — or likely
Finding a place that can teach in English is the first hurdle for many visitors, military families and new residents. This page collects every listing where English is confirmed or likely: 9 confirmed and 4 likely so far.
How we label it. “English” means the operator's own site, or someone with first-hand experience, says English is spoken in class. “English (likely)” means there are signs — an English-language page, a foreign instructor — but nobody has confirmed it. Most listings say nothing, which does not mean nobody there speaks English; it means we don't know.

If your place isn't on this list
Most gyms and dojo are used to visitors and will find a way. A few things help:
- Message first on Instagram, Facebook or LINE — written Japanese is easier for staff than a phone call, and a translation app is enough.
- Use the short phrases in our beginner guide to ask to watch a class (見学) and whether English is possible.
- Ask whether someone in the class can translate; in many dojo a member or a senior student does.
